Facts About Football

Association football, more commonly called simply football, is a common team sport usually played between two parallel teams of eleven players each. It is the most popular sport in the world, with over 250 million people playing it in more than 200 nations and dependencies. The game is predominantly played in Europe, with Australia, South Africa, and the United States also being known to have played high level football. The game can be traced back to as early as the nineteenth century in England, but it was taken up by the Europeans after World War II.

The sport players all stand shoulder to shoulder and use feet and hands to propel the ball forwards or backwards. The object of the game is simple – possession of the ball. There are two types of football; the open and closed leagues. In the open league, the competition is for a single point, while in the closed league, the points are scored according to a points system.

The game is generally played at an angle of ninety degrees, with the ball being passed from side to side. Two teams are usually designated to form four sub-teams who rotate in various rotational patterns to try to capture the ball from the opponents. The game ends when one team scores the maximum number of points, or when the match referee signals the end of the match.
