Association Football – A Worldwide Game

Association football, also known as just football, is an intercollegiate team sport usually played by a spherical ball comprising of eleven players. It is played by more than 250 million players in more than 200 different countries and dependencies, which make it the most popular sport in the world. Football is known to be the most watched sport in the world, and one out of every three Americans watch it regularly. The game of football is very popular not only in America but also in other parts of the world such as in Europe, Asia, and South America.

In England, the FA (FA Premier League) is the governing body for football. A lot of football fanatics throughout the years have been crazy about the sport and even formed the F.A.F.L (FIFA Football League), an international football association that unites football enthusiasts from across the world. A variety of football competitions are held yearly, and the world cup, also called the World Cup, is the most awaited event in the football calendar.

Association football is played between two teams that are divided in age and gender. The teams play each other in a three-hour game played inside a large stadium. This game can also be played with three teams in each opposite corners of the park; the home team facing off against the opposition, while the neutral team play each other. The game is played using a rectangular oval field consisting of sixty yards per side. When the match is over, the winning team is given the victory, with the teams being given three points for a win and one point for a draw.
