History of Football

Association football, also known as just football, is a competitive team game played between two teams of eleven players. It is one of the most popular games on the planet, with more than 250 million people playing it in more than 200 countries and deities, making it the most popular game in the world. The game is played between teams within teams, with each team given 3 minutes per half hour of play time. The game is played for 2 halves; the second half is generally played at halftime because of the longer period of play.

There are several ways to score during a football match. The scoring is done by the conversion of kicks into goals, throws, goals or through ground and aerial passes. The ball needs to travel over a certain distance in order to be converted. If the ball makes an illegal contact with an opponent player during the kick or during the pass, a penalty will be given. Kicks and passes that are successful are also scored separately.

The game was developed and played throughout Europe and much of North America during the 19th century, with soccer being played professionally in Europe for the first time in 1887. American football was created in the North American Soccer Professional league, which was first played on a regular basis in clubs in Chicago, Illinois, from the start. A year later the National Football League (NFL) was formed, featuring the very first official football game ever played, on its own field in Exhibition Stadium New Orleans. Both the NFL and the NCAA have professional teams and tournaments today. The game has a very high participation rate among children, with many teams actively recruiting students in high schools and colleges.
